02 Oct 2024 Decision Making
A senior leader in the business was struggling with his workload and increasing pressure. He had always been highly productive, however, he had noticed he and his team members were finding it difficult to make decisions.
He had started to unlock their potential, and they were being seen as extremely capable.
The employee contacted me as he had decided to start his own coaching journey. Because of his openness to coaching, by the third session he had started to recognise some behaviours in himself that were inhibiting his teams development. He acknowledged he could be a bit of a perfectionist, and throughout the coaching started to learn that his team were struggling to live up to his expectations.
The manager recognised he needed to change the way he worked. He knew he needed to learn to let go, and give his team members more autonomy, allowing them to make decisions, and accept they wouldn’t always get things right or do things to his standards. Changing his behaviour enabled the manager to recognise when he micro managed his team and was also much more conscious of how this impacted them.
By changing some of the ways he worked he saw he had some very capable team members. The last time I saw him he had said that he’d finally unlocked his teams potential.
